Seasonal home maintenance checklist

A home maintenance checklist grouped by season, with a short list of monthly checks on top. Edit it for your house: delete the boiler if you have a heat pump, add the pool if you have one.

Changes are saved on this device as soon as you tick or edit.

Tips for your home maintenance checklist

Why plan home maintenance by season?

Most upkeep follows the weather. Gutters fill in autumn, heating needs a check before it gets cold, and outdoor wood is easiest to treat in dry months. Grouping jobs by season turns a long list into four short ones, and technicians are easier to book before their busy season starts.

Where does the smoke alarm item come from?

From the U.S. Fire Administration’s page on smoke alarms, linked under the list with the day we read it. Its instruction for each alarm type is “Test the alarm monthly.” For replacing batteries or the whole alarm, follow that page and the instructions of the alarm’s manufacturer. Rules where you live may differ, so check your local fire service too.

Which jobs need a professional?

Anything with gas, electrics beyond changing a bulb, work at height on the roof and servicing of boilers, furnaces or air conditioning. The list says "book a technician" for those. Checking from the ground, clearing gutters you can reach safely and cleaning filters are usually jobs you can do yourself.

How do you reuse the list every year?

Keep your edited list saved on this device and press "Untick all" at the start of each year. Your own items stay; only the ticks are cleared. Print one season at a time and stick it on the fridge if that helps.

Questions about this checklist

Can I add jobs specific to my house?

Yes. Add items under any season, or a new section such as "Pool" or "Septic tank". The list is yours to change.

Does it remind me when a season starts?

No. The site sends no notifications and keeps no account. Add the season dates to your own calendar and open the saved list then.

Is this list for renters too?

Many items are the landlord’s job in a rental. Delete those, keep the checks you can do, and report problems to the landlord in writing, with a photo and the date, so there is a record of when you told them.

Can I keep a log of what was done?

Edit an item after the job to add a note, such as who did it or what it cost, then tick it. The note stays in the list saved on this device and appears when you print or copy it as text.

Can I share the list with the people I live with?

Press Share link. Each person opening it gets their own copy with the same items and ticks.
