Road trip checklist

A road trip checklist in five parts: the car, the route, what rides in the cabin, what goes in the boot, and the last checks before you leave. Delete what you do not need and add your stops.

Changes are saved on this device as soon as you tick or edit.

Tips for your car road trip checklist

How do you check the car before a road trip?

Two things you can do from home: look up open recalls for your vehicle on the website of the maker or of your national road safety agency, and read the maintenance section of your owner’s manual. For the mechanical checks, book your mechanic before a long drive. This list does not give tyre pressures or fluid levels, because the right values are in your car’s manual and on the label of your vehicle.

What should be in the car for a long drive?

Things that keep people comfortable and things that help if the car stops: water, snacks, chargers, a warm layer, a torch, jump leads and a first aid kit. Pack the boot so the things you may need on the road are on top, not under the suitcases.

How do you plan stops?

Mark fuel or charging stations, places to eat and overnight stops on the route before you leave, and plan driver breaks into the timetable. Add each stop as an item and tick it as you pass; the list then doubles as your trip log.

Can I use the list with an electric car?

Yes. Change "Fill the tank" to charging, add the charging apps and cards you need, and mark chargers on the route. Every item is editable.

Questions about this checklist

Does the checklist work offline?

Once the page has loaded, ticking and editing happen in your browser. Opening the site again without a connection depends on your browser keeping the page in its cache.

Can I share the road trip list with passengers?

Yes. Press Share link and send it. Each person gets a copy; give each one a section to look after.

Why does the list not give tyre pressures?

Because the right values depend on the car and the load. They are in your owner’s manual and on the label of your vehicle, and your mechanic can check them before the trip.

Can I print it?

Yes. Press Print for a clean sheet with empty boxes, ready to keep in the glovebox.

Can I add the stops as I drive?

Yes, but let a passenger do it. Add a section called Stops and type each place as an item; tick it when you leave. The list is saved on the phone as you go.
